Mehadi comes from the small town of Adama. After his parents got divorced, he and his five brothers were raised by his very poor single mother. Her job as a community street sweeper with little pay was not enough to provide for her family and there was hardly any food in the house. In his effort to help his mother, Mehadi first went to the streets to beg, but then he left for the city streets of Addis Ababa.
